Tehran is willing to reinitiate nuclear discussions with the United States on condition that it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has announced.

The Iranian diplomat declared only diplomacy worked, and disclosed new appeals had come from intermediaries to resume talks with the American leadership. He claimed Iran did not have undeclared nuclear sites, and Tehran was not yet able to permit the International Atomic Energy Agency to access struck enrichment centers for protective measures.

Navigating a Challenging Path

The foreign minister is navigating a challenging path since Iran wishes not to appear to be operating from a situation of weakness, and he consistently maintained that Iran had come out stronger defensively and psychologically from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was addressing at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to process nuclear material on home soil that it will always maintain" – the main reason of the stalemate in the prior discussions.

Iran's diplomats said they felt they had attained a "magic solution" to the nuclear fuel concern in previous talks, when it was agreed an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could enrich uranium. Each party would have been able to assert triumph since domestic enrichment would have persisted and the US could be assured that Iran's nuclear programme was entirely non-military.
